i. Course Aim: To provide an understanding of the concepts of farming systems and the sustainable livelihoods approach, and equip students with analytical skills for analyzing specific farming systems for sustainable livelihoods.
ii. Expected Learning outcome
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand farming systems’ determinants and their interactions;
- Apply a systems approach to research and development.
- Assess and evaluate existing practices and design of specific appropriate farming systems for sustainable livelihoods;
- Acquire skills in the conduct of farmer-researcher collaboration in identifying critical production constraints, and in designing and critically analyzing alternative solutions to identified problems.
