The course aims to help students gain a better understanding of critical questions about the economies of developing nations.
Course Content
The concepts of development; Underdevelopment and economic growth; Overview of economic development theories (e.g. growth stage, structural change and dependency). Theories of economic growth, their main results and relevance for developing countries. The concepts of economic planning; Evolution of planning for development and Policy reforms. Introduction to the concepts of agricultural development and the role of agriculture in economic development. Development planning and techniques with reference to developing countries. Financing agricultural development, agricultural credit, and topical issues such as poverty, structural transformation and gender in development.
